Catherine Hershey School for Early Learning, Hershey Celebrates First Moving On Ceremony

Catherine Hershey Schools for Early Learning (CHS) families, teachers, Family Success Advocates, and staff recently gathered for a “Moving On” celebration, honoring the children who will transition to kindergarten at the end of the summer. The celebration marks another significant milestone for CHS, as this is the first class to move on from the program.

For most of the 40 children moving on, their enrollment at CHS was their first early learning experience. Barriers such as financial limitations and wait lists stood in the way until CHS Hershey opened in fall 2023.

Serving children from six weeks to 5 years old from under-resourced and over-burdened backgrounds with all costs covered, CHS provides year-round, weekday, non-residential early childhood education and care. The program offers a play-based curriculum to enhance children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development and leverages a whole child approach with supports such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy; physical and mental health services; meals, transportation, and personal items.

CHS also leverages a family success approach, with dedicated Family Success Advocates who provide comprehensive family support services with the goal of establishing safe, strong, financially stable homes for CHS children and families.

At CHS, families are empowered and supported in identifying the local kindergarten of their choosing with support from their dedicated Family Success Advocate. Leveraging strong partnerships with local K-12 programs, families are aided in making a smooth transition. At CHS Hershey, for most children this includes Milton Hershey School and Derry Township, Lower Dauphin, and Palmyra Area School Districts. To further set the child and family up for continued success after CHS, CHS helps families identify plans including transportation and before and after school care.

CHS Hershey is currently enrolling 3-year-olds for the 2024-25 academic school year. Learn more about admissions criteria or apply today.
